Bird's Eye View
From the desk of Eric Heath
The cycle is turning. The operators who managed through the trough with discipline are emerging structurally stronger than they were when they entered. The conditions that suppressed deal activity for the better part of three years are lifting — and the data now supports saying so plainly.
In March, I wrote that the market’s posture was the most constructive in two years, but more nuanced than a simple rate-recovery story. Q1 earnings have largely confirmed that view. Across carriers, brokers, and logistics operators, management teams are describing the same dynamic: the cycle is turning, it is supply-driven rather than demand-led, and disciplined operators are emerging.

Transportation and logistics founders have faced a few challenging years; however, activity has rebounded from the most recent trough earlier than many expected.
For founders looking to sell, the implication isn’t necessarily urgency but awareness of how buyers are engaging and what they are prioritizing. Understanding positioning, leverage, and buyer expectations before launching a process is becoming more important as conditions evolve and more sellers return to market.
Transportation & Logistics M&A activity remained resilient into early Q2, with April's sharp rebound reinforcing the ongoing year-over-year escalation trend — further validating the improving deal environment across North America.
